Our Story

How Conflict Start

  • It often starts with something small. A text about the children. A disagreement about routines. A conversation that should have taken five minutes turns into silence, frustration, or another painful argument. For parents who are thinking about separation, or already living through it, communication can become one of the hardest parts of all.

  • Children may not always understand the details, but they often feel the change. They notice the tension in the room, the disruption in daily life, and the stress that follows difficult conversations. Parents want to protect them, but when communication has broken down, even ordinary decisions about care, schedules, and parenting can feel overwhelming.

  • Avour Family Mediation and Education was created for families in these moments. It was built on the belief that conflict does not have to keep causing harm, and that with the right support, families can move through difficult seasons with more clarity, dignity, and care. Through a warm, respectful, and trauma-informed approach, Favour helps parents work through conflict, focus on the best interests of children, and begin creating a healthier path forward.

Our Values

Transparency
Clear and honest communication builds trust. At Avour Family Mediation and Education, we help families understand the mediation process, the options available to them, and what to expect at each stage — so they can make informed decisions with confidence.

Neutrality
As neutral mediators, we don't take sides or make decisions for you. Our role is to hold space for both parents to be heard fairly, keeping the process balanced and focused on what matters most: your child's wellbeing.

Respect
We treat every person with dignity and create space for each voice to be heard, even during difficult conversations. Respectful communication lays the foundation for healthier co-parenting relationships.

Empathy
Each family is approached with compassion, care, and understanding. We recognize that conflict involving children can be deeply personal, and we hold that with sensitivity throughout the process.

Commitment
We are dedicated to supporting families with consistency, compassion, and professionalism as they work toward child-focused outcomes and healthier family dynamics.

About Me

Favour Joseph: Founder of Avour Family Mediation & Education

I am an Associate Family Mediator working toward accreditation with the Ontario Association for Family Mediation (OAFM). My practice focuses on child-focused family mediation, supporting parents and families as they navigate separation, co-parenting, and family transitions with compassion, clarity, and care.

My approach places the best interests of children at the centre of the mediation process. I help families consider how parenting decisions may affect children’s safety, stability, development, relationships, and emotional well-being while supporting parents in making informed decisions and moving forward respectfully.

I hold an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Studies and Women’s Studies, now Gender and Social Justice, from Trent University. I also completed postgraduate training in Conflict Resolution and Mediation at Durham College and a Master of Education from the University of Ottawa.

I am a Full Member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Canada. My professional background includes psychoeducation related to child development and family dynamics, domestic and intimate partner violence, safety planning, family conflict resolution, trauma-informed practice, and the intersectionality of identities.
